Additional
Information and Studies
on Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)
CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid)
is a free fatty acid derived from safflower oil. Our CLA softgels
provide a minimum of 75% CLA in every batch. Scientists estimate
that our food supply once contained much higher levels of CLA
before the advent of modern agricultural and animal feeding methods.
As a result, CLA may be lacking in typical refined diets.
What is CLA and what is it good for?
CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) is a naturally
occurring derivative of linoleic acid. Studies suggest that CLA
may bring about favorable changes in body composition by metabolizing
fat for energy, which may assist with weight control.
CLA also possesses antioxidant activity, supports cardiovascular
health, and is currently being researched for possible anticarcinogenic
activity.
NOW® uses BioOriginal brand CLA, one of the best available
CLA supplements derived from safflower oil. It contains 70% CLA
with no trans-fats present, comparable to most brands on the market
today.
How much CLA is in your supplement, and is it safe for anyone
to take?
Six softgels supply 1000mg, of which 600mg is CLA. The softgel
contains no animal products. It is plant-derived from safflower
oil and palm oil.
We do not recommend taking this supplement during pregnancy or
breast-feeding. While this product is safe, always check with
your doctor when taking supplements during or after pregnancy.
It is not advisable to be on any weight loss program during pregnancy
